Metallic and insulating states in two-dimensional C60-polymers
Variations in the band structures of the two-dimensional C60-polymers are studied, when π-conjugation conditions are changed. We investigate the rectangular and triangular polymers, in order to discuss metal-insulator transitions, using a semiempirical model with the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger type electronphonon interactions. We find that electronic structures change among directgap insulators and t...
متن کاملSolitonic States in Organic Conducting Polymers
In a typical solitonic distribution, the soliton density is distributed over the entire moleculeand the present work shows how its density can be decomposed into solitonic and antisolitoniccomponents. It is found that there exists a unique electron as soliton over the anionicnanoconductor, while there are many other solitons and antisolitons. The solitonic states are furtherdecomposed to the ca...

متن کاملMagnetic properties of C60 polymers.
Magnetic properties of various C60 polymers are calculated using tight-binding molecular-dynamics and ab initio methods. Our results suggest a mechanism involving an interplay between structural defects and sp(3) hybridization to be responsible for the origin of this magnetism. The onset of magnetism is found to occur much more readily for the Rh-C60 polymeric phase with defects than for any of...
متن کاملDoping and the unique role of vacancies in promoting the magnetic ground state in carbon nanotubes and C60 polymers
The role of various types of defects in establishing the magnetic properties of the C60-based polymers and the single-wall carbon nanotubes is investigated. Comparing the role of carbon vacancies, and that of substitutional impurity atoms X X=N, B, O, Si, P, and S in establishing a magnetic ground state it is found that the impurity X atoms promote the spin density delocalization, whereas its l...
